Nearly 3,000 animals came through the doors at RSPCA ACT in the last year, that’s more than eight every single day. They arrive neglected, abandoned, homeless. The life-saving animal welfare work would not be possible without the support of animal lovers across our community!

Every day, every animal

It’s because of people like you that we can give them a warm bed to curl up on, and enrichment treats to brighten their stay.

You help provide them with vital veterinary care and patient behavioural support.

You help cover the costs of microchipping, vaccination and desexing, in preparation for adoption.

There is still lots of work to do. In the next three months we’re expecting around 600 animals to arrive at our shelter in Weston, ACT. We need your help to get them ready to find their forever homes.

Help animals like Kuma

Kuma arrived at RSPCA ACT after being removed from a deceased estate, weighing just 19 kilograms. She was severely emaciated, with her ribs, hips and spine clearly visible, and was so weak she was struggling to stand.

We were deeply concerned for her. She needed immediate veterinary care and a carefully managed feeding plan to help her regain her strength safely.

Because Kuma was so fragile and needed close monitoring over the weekend, our team arranged for her to receive care at an after-hours veterinary hospital before returning to RSPCA ACT.

Back at the shelter, our veterinary team continued her recovery, carefully monitoring her food intake, weight and progress. It was a slow process, but day by day, Kuma grew stronger.

Within weeks, the transformation was remarkable. Kuma eventually reached 40 kilograms, more than double her arrival weight. Her strength returned, and so did her personality. The once-fragile Akita became a happy, affectionate and very much loved member of the team.

After months in our care, Kuma found her forever home.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of people like you, who help ensure animals like Kuma receive the care they need to make their way home.
